| Background: | Nitric oxide synthase, inducible is an enzyme that in humans is encoded by the NOS2 gene. NOS2 expression is necessary for the microbicidal activity of macrophages. However, NOS2 over-activation causes multiple inflammatory disorders, suggesting a tight gene regulation is necessary.
